Mindfulness is one of the most effective practices to teach kids to calm themselves in stressful moments, increase focus and attention, ease anxiety, and promote a sense of empathy toward others. Eline Snel's Sitting Still Like a Frog method of meditation has introduced hundreds of thousands of children worldwide to become more relaxed and attentive, more aware of their bodies and emotions, and to be more open toward others. This Sitting Still Like a Frog Activity Book is packed with entertaining and useful activities that children can do alone or with a parent, including yoga exercises for tuning into your body; art and cooking projects; stories to meditate on; posters to color and cards to cut out; stickers; attention games; love notes to share; the big family frog game; and much more!
This inspirational and timely guide is about how mindfulness helps children, why it's becoming more popular and how to do it. It combines practical exercises that children can complete alongside their parents/carers with a fun and engaging commentary on the theory and science behind the practice. Uz takes you through the day, from waking, eating, learning and appreciating to sleeping, including exercises for how to cope with exams, how to deal with the screen culture and what mindfulness practises you can do in holiday time. Together, this gives the reader an enjoyable and accessible path into the practice of mindfulness for children. Many schools are not able to include mindfulness in their curricula and educators and parents alike are eager to have more guidance on how to support children. This current era of rising levels of child mental health, with the pressures in schools as well as the increasingly fast-paced, digitized and image-obsessed world is having a really negative effect. Mindfulness for Children is a positive and practical tool that will give children the skills to manage their feelings, increase their confidence and concentration levels as well as aiding their transition to secondary school. And it can help parents and caregivers, too, by promoting happiness and relieving stress.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, causes problems with physical activity levels, focusing on family and control of impulses. Even though some people prefer to believe that men and women who are overly active or cannot focus on family have behavioral issues that can be corrected with good discipline, studies show that ADHD is a real condition, possibly with genetic or environmental causes. The Center for Disease Control recognizes ADHD is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders that are diagnosed in both adults and children. Though many adults often have difficulties sitting still or focusing on tasks, those with ADHD can lead to progressively more serious problems at work and at home. Not all men and women with ADHD have the same degree of physical activity. Some may have a low degree of activity, while others may be highly active. Symptoms include chronic daydreaming, fidgeting, constant motion, inability to listen, inability to sit quietly, problems taking turns, speaking out of turn and difficulty paying attention. Researchers believe ADHD may have a strong genetic component because of their work with twins. Other proposed causes may be exposure to lead, alcohol and tobacco use during pregnancy, low birth weight, premature delivery and brain injury. No research concludes that poverty, family problems, and too much television or consuming large amounts of sugar causes ADHD, though these factors may exacerbate symptoms. These are serious problems that can seriously affect your marriage. If you see any of these symptoms in your spouse or partner you need to pick up a copy of this book : The Effect ADHD Has On Marriage by Terence A. Williams that will help you not only understand your spouse better but alleviate a lot of the stress you are going through.

Plain "mathematics" questions are progressively being replaced with more demanding "numerical reasoning" questions. Selective schools are increasingly interested in not only rote recall of methods but also the ability to understand questions expressed in prose and skilfully apply (sometimes several) mathematical principles to arrive at an answer. The Eureka! 11+ Challenging Maths and Numerical Reasoning series of books to provide focused preparation for pupils and their busy parents. Questions are expressed in words, with the pupils learning the habit of extracting the relevant numbers and key facts. Most questions are multi-part, reflecting the trend in examinations to challenge pupils skills at progressively higher levels as the question unfolds. These questions are the upper echelon of what is tested at 11+. Although they need only Key Stage 2 concepts, they are challenging because they require good command of multiple skills simultaneously. Pupils, and perhaps even parents, will find very few of these questions to be very easy. Thankfully, the real exam will contain many easier questions, but preparation time is best spent on those which present greater challenges and therefore more learning opportunities. When answering the questions Set yourself a target, e.g. "3 questions in half an hour" Write down clearly your steps of working in full to make checking easier Go through the answers soon after doing the questions Do not be sad if you have made mistakes: learn from them Many questions cover areas where even strong pupils are prone to errors Watch out for the Traps described Incorporate the Tips into your methods in future See if the Method suggested is quicker or less open to error than yours For any examination, diligent practice, carefully analysing errors, mulling over methods, and developing and testing your own preferred approaches pay enormous dividends.
