đź“ťSycamore Row A Novel Jake Brigance Book Synopsis : Jake Brigance has never met Seth Hubbard, or even heard of him, until the old man's suicide note names him attorney for his estate. The will is dynamite. Seth has left ninety per cent of his vast, secret fortune to his housemaid. The vultures are circling even before the body is cold: the only subject more incendiary than money in Ford County is race, and this case has both. AS the relatives contest the will, and unscrupulous lawyers hasten to benefit, Jake searches for answers to the many questions left by Seth Hubbard's death: What made him write that last-minute will leaving everything to a poor black woman named Lettie Lang? Why did he choose to kill himself on the desolate piece of land known as Sycamore Row? And what was it that Seth and his brother witnessed as children that, in his words, 'no human should ever see'? In the long-awaited successor to the novel that launched his phenomenal career, John Grisham brings us the powerful sequel to A Time to Kill. As filled with page-turning twists as it is with legal mastery, Sycamore Row proves beyond doubt that John Grisham is in a league of his own.

📝Sycamore Row Book Synopsis : #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Don’t miss an original essay by John Grisham in the back of the book. John Grisham takes you back to where it all began. One of the most popular novels of our time, A Time to Kill established John Grisham as the master of the legal thriller. Now we return to Ford County as Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a fiercely controversial trial that exposes a tortured history of racial tension. Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County’s most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises many more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly? And what does it all have to do with a piece of land once known as Sycamore Row? Look for special features inside. Join the Random House Reader’s Circle for author chats and more. Praise for Sycamore Row “Powerful . . . immensely readable . . . the best of his books.”—The Washington Post “Welcome back, Jake. . . . [Brigance] is one of the most fully developed and engaging characters in all of Grisham’s novels.”—USA Today “One of [Grisham’s] finest . . . Sycamore Row is a true literary event.”—The New York Times Book Review

đź“ťA Literary Cavalcade VII Book Synopsis : Writer and editor Robert A. Parker has followed up his six-volume A Literary Cavalcade with a seventh volume. This volume of criticism covers mainly the fiction he has read from 2013 to early 2017. His comments are informed by his Jesuit upbringing but also by an independent critical view that balances a moral and literary sensibility. The writers here represent a broad range of writing styles, cultural influences, and moral philosophies. And all are rated on their literary achievement, the effectiveness of plot, character, and setting, plus their recognition of the moral, ethical, and spiritual values of mankind. Here is a unique critical perspective that measures the meaning of literature against the meaning of life.

We read every chapter and summarize it in one or two paragraphs so you can get the information contained in the book at a faster rate. This is an InstaRead Summary of Sycamore Row by John Grisham. Below is a preview of the earlier sections of the summary: Chapter 1 On a wooded settlement in Clanton, Ford County, the practicalities and implications of Seth Hubbard's hanging are contemplated. He had an aggressive lung cancer and, despite two expensive divorces, he had kept possession of the timber-laden estate left to him by his father. Seth's farm-hand, Calvin Boggs, has been ordered to meet Seth at 2.00pm at an isolated bridge, to which Calvin drives with his young son. Calvin realises that Seth is hanging from a sycamore tree and calls the county sheriff. The deputies mark the area around the tree as a crime scene, but once Calvin is taken to Seth's home he discovers a note left by Seth stating that he has taken his own life and requests that there be no autopsy. Ozzie Wall, a black sheriff, recounts his memories of Seth offering to bankroll his election campaigns in cash, as the coroner and deputies take Seth's body down from the tree. Ozzie decides to further investigate Mr. Hubbard's background. Chapter 2 Jake Brigance wakes at 5.30am to fulfil his routine of getting up, heading the coffee-shop, and then onto his office. He ponders over his static career and weighs up his ambitions to become a great trial lawyer. He recounts that his best case was three years ago in the 'Hailey trial'. However, the victory in court came at the price of his Victorian home being burned down by the Ku Klux Klan and losing the family dog in the fire. Now living in a 'flimsy' house, paid-for by his insurance company, Jake kisses goodbye to his wife and daughter and contemplates the 9mm pistol he now carries in his briefcase. He recalls how only four out of a dozen of the terrorists who were involved in the harassment of Jake, and those around him, have been given sentences. Ozzie Wall keeps a deputy, Louis Tuck, outside of the Brigance home every morning for protection against any possible terrorist threat. At the coffee shop Jake talks to Deputy Marshall Prather about Seth Hubbard and wonders about Hubbard's last will and testament. Dell, the gossiping waitress, lets on that Seth Hubbard was found hanged. Jake then contemplates his rival lawyers as he walks to his office and arrives for 7.00am.
